Texas AFL-CIO Endorses Lydia Bean

ARLINGTON, TX - Today, small business owner, former teacher, and Democratic candidate in Texas’ 6th Congressional District Lydia Bean was endorsed by the Texas AFL-CIO. Bean is the only Democrat in the race to earn a statewide endorsement and only candidate of all 23 to have the support of organized labor.

“Unions are the backbone of the middle class and I am honored to have the support of the AFL-CIO and their 235,000 Texas members,” said Bean.“I will always stand up and fight for the rights of workers to collectively bargain for better wages, for safer working standards, and job training programs. I fought alongside organized labor to bring paid sick time to Northern Texas workers. The AFL-CIO knows that I have their back. I am honored to have their support and I will continue to fight for working families in Congress.”

“The working families of the Texas AFL-CIO are proud to endorse Lydia Bean for Congress,” said Rick Levy, President of Texas AFL-CIO. “We know Lydia Bean – we’ve fought alongside her for jobs, healthcare, higher wages, and paid sick time. And Lydia Bean has stood with us. We know we can count on Lydia Bean to support our manufacturing jobs in Tarrant County, to support the PRO Act so that every worker has the opportunity to join a union, and make sure every family has access to healthcare.”

Lydia Bean is a new mother, small business owner, and community leader who has worked across partisan lines and brought people together to make real change. As the daughter of a teacher and a pastor, Lydia’s parents taught her to stand up for what she believes in. Lydia put that lesson to work when she founded Faith in Texas, a nonprofit organization that brings faith communities together to work toward change in their schools, cities, and state.
